The Fault in Our Stars

Stars” follows Hazel (Shailene Woodley), who was diagnosed with cancer at the age of thirteen. A clinical trial gave her a few good years, but she has never been really anything but terminal. Her behavior leads her parents (Laura Dern and Sam Trammel) to believe she’s depressed, and force her to attend an insufferable cancer support group, where she meets who turns out to be the love of her life, Augustus Waters (Ansel Elgort).

First off you will probably cry at this film more than you ever have at a movie. You will probably ugly cry. Just warning you! The film of The Fault in Our Stars is a great adaption of a beautiful and wonderfully-written novel. It’s sort of perfect.

Dracula Untold

The origin story of the man who became the enduring legend of Dracula is told in Dracula Untold, an epic action-adventure starring Luke Evans (Fast & Furious 6, The Hobbit series) in the title role. Gary Shore directs, and Michael De Luca produces.

Dracula Untold plays out similarly to Disney’s Maleficent, where it isn’t necessarily a remake or reboot, but a retelling, a ‘what if this was actually how it happened’-style movie. The film follows Vlad the Impaler as he looks over Transylvania as Prince. But when the Turkish Sultan Mehmed II comes calling for a thousand boys from Vlad’s kingdom, he decides the only thing he can do is confront the demonic force that lay within Broken Tooth mountain, where Vlad previously encountered the creature. Bestowed the unholy gifts of being a vampire, Vlad has three days to protect his kingdom, his family, and fend off the Sultan. But if he is to give into the thirst within those three days, he will remain this beast for eternity. Fighting the thirst, the Sultan’s army and his own psyche, Vlad, a man of death who wanted to become a man of peace returns to his old ways in order to save those he cares for. But at what cost?

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies concludes the epic journey of Bilbo Baggins of the Shire and his legion of Dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield, under the guidance of Gandalf the Wizard, with a powerful, emotional finish. It begins right where part II left off, and wastes little time building towards the incredible war that is about to take place for the treasures of the Lonely Mountain.

Thorin must decide if he should live in his Grandfather’s footsteps and horde all of the gold that is rightfully his, or listen to his solemn friends at the end of their dangerous journey to reclaim their home. The Bard and his townsfolk want only enough of the treasure to rebuild their fire scorned town, while the Elves want their cut of the diamonds, and yet the Orcs and Goblins, led by Azog the Defiler, wish to claim this Mountain fortress for its strategic position in the land, under their master Sauron, who is confronted by Galadriel, Gandalf, Elrond and Saruman. When the Dwarf army enters the fray, war becomes inevitable despite the pleas of the burglar Hobbit, Bilbo and his golden ring of invisibility. Tamriel (smoothly weaved into the story and an original character not in the J.R.R. Tolkien Book) lends her support along with the expert marksman Legolas, as she must decide if Kili, the Dwarf she is taken with, will be worth pursuing during this great war.

101 Dalmatians: Diamond Edition

Disney unleashes the hounds!!

“101 Dalmatians” may be the most unfairly slighted of Walt Disney’s ‘classic’ animated films, as this dog-napping adventure literally saved the studio, introduced the ultimate Disney villainess, Cruella De Vil, and ushered in a visually graphic ‘style’ that would set the industry standard for a decade. Oh, and it’s great FUN, too!
Based on Dodie Smith’s 1956 novel (inspired by her own Dalmatian pets), Disney knew it would be a ‘natural’ for the screen, at a time when he desperately needed a blockbuster. Despite the huge success of “Cinderella”, in 1950, the decade, with the studio’s resources stretched between both live and animated features and shorts, television, and the opening of Disneyland, had been a costly one, and the skyrocketing cost of producing animation, after a string of less successful cartoons (culminating in the failure of “Sleeping Beauty”), threatened to curtail any future animated films. It was a desperate time (most of the major studios were shutting down their animation departments, and the ‘limited animation’ of Hanna-Barbera, which Disney detested, appeared to be the ‘future’ of cartoons), and he turned to production manager Ken Anderson to find a way to make the film cost-effective while maintaining the ‘Disney’ look.

Frozen

A sweet, magical film filled with great music, likable characters, and striking effects, Frozen is a fairy tale about overcoming obstacles and the power of true love. Princesses Anna and Elsa are sisters and the closest friends until one day Elsa discovers that she can no longer control her power to create ice and snow. Terrified for the safety of her sister and everyone around her, Elsa isolates herself and vows to never feel any sort of passionate emotion again in hopes of suppressing her powers. But when Elsa comes of age and is set to be crowned queen, she must open the gates of the palace and let in the public, not to mention her sister Anna. Things go horribly wrong and Anna pursues her sister into the mountains in an attempt to save Elsa and reverse the deep freeze that Elsa has inadvertently released on the kingdom of Arendelle. Along the way, Anna joins forces with Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), an ice seller with a strangely close relationship with his reindeer Sven, and Olaf (Josh Gad), a goofy snowman whom she suddenly remembers from early childhood. In the end, Anna and Elsa discover that only by embracing their deepest feelings do they have a chance of saving themselves and the kingdom.

Lone Survivor

Lone Survivor tells the incredible tale of four Navy SEALs on a covert mission to neutralize a high-level al-Qaeda operative. The four men must make an impossible moral decision in the mountains of Afghanistan that leads them into an enemy ambush. As they confront unthinkable odds, the SEALs must find reserves of strength and resilience to fight to the finish.

Brutal and intense, writer-director Peter Berg’s superb combat film, based on the vivid New York Times bestselling tale of heroism, takes a look at the 19 American deaths – and lone survivor – of an ill-fated incident in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan.

Bloody and poetic, the incredible true story follows four Navy SEALS on a secret mission to kill a Taliban leader when they stumble across a trio of goat herders. The SEALS choose the difficult decision to release and not kill them. That act of mercy is rewarded by a relentless firestorm from at least forty Taliban fighters who quickly surround the four.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3D

Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder has an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
This is certainly one of the years most exciting movies, and one of the most entertaining too, I think in terms of bringing these characters to the big screen again after all these years they have done a top notch job, you will always get haters no matter what always trying to spoil the fun so don’t listen, I’m not a massive fan of the franchise and watched this with lower expectations but totally loved it for what it is, you don’t need to look at it as just a kids movie anymore, just enjoy it as a stand alone action sci-fi fantasy, this is a darker and more realistic vision of what these characters should be like due more to the fact the effects now make them look so much more like actual mutant turtles and they look badass, the action is great, some a little over the top but that’s to be expected.
